Can you use a vacuum seal bag without a vacuum?
Yes, it’s possible to vacuum seal your food at home without a vacuum sealer! All you need is a zip-top plastic freezer bag and a bowl of water.
How long do space bags last?
As mentioned earlier, items with natural fibres like wool and fur clothing shouldn’t be stored in vacuum bags for a long time. The fibres require air to stay in their natural shape. Storing them in compressed bags for a few months isn’t that bad, but when storage exceeds six months, you’ll start to cause damage.
Are vacuum seal bags reusable?
Yes. Just cut off the existing seal, remove as much food as you need, then re-vacuum seal. Be sure to wipe off any food or grease residue inside the FoodSaver® bag near the seal area. You can also re-seal FoodSaver® Bags after you have washed them.
Can you reuse vacuum seal bags for clothes?
Answer: They just zip up at the top so you can reuse them as often as you like as long as there are no punctures in the bag.
Why do my space bags leak?
A vacuum hose attached to a valve connected to a filled bag sucks out all the air, crunching down the bag’s contents and sealing them once the air is removed. However, the bags can tear, and once they do, the seal is lost and air can get back into the bag. Finding these leaks takes diligence.

To vacuum out the air, use standard vacuum cleaner hose over the valve. For Travel Bags, no vacuum is required as compression is activated by rolling the bag. Down-filled items should only be reduced to 50% as further compression can damage down. Restore the loft of filled items every six months while in storage.

Medium Flat holds 4-5 sweaters. Large Flat holds up to 10 sweaters. Extra Large Flat holds up to 18 sweaters. Travel holds up to 5 sweaters or shirts. Do not use to store food, leather, or items made of fur. Don’t fill Space Bag ® products beyond the “Fill Line.”
