Is it better to get lowering springs or coilovers?
Lowering springs are great if you want a cheap way to give your car a better stance, and possibly better handling. Depending on the car and spring, however, handling can be hurt by lowering springs. Coilovers are the much better option as they control your car much better and give you lots of adjustabilities.
What’s the difference between coilovers and lowering?
Unlike lowering springs, coilovers offer a much greater range of adjustability including ride height, spring pre-load, shock damping, and rebound. Typically, coilover sets feature even stiffer spring rates than a set of lowering springs alone, again sacrificing ride quality for cornering performance.
Are daily coilovers or lowering springs better for driving?
A good coilover will improve your car handling by leaps and bounds – at the expense of comfort. Lowering spring will lower your car and still provide you with the handling improvement (although not as much). However, this handling improvement is usually enough if you are driving on the street with your daily driver.
Are adjustable coilovers worth it?
If the car is purposely built for circuit laps, then a set of advanced shock adjustable coilovers is recommended; it may cost premium, but the increase in stability over tight turns and high rates of speed is worth it. However, if the car is a daily driver, lowering springs should be used at most.
Which is more comfortable coilover or lowering springs?
Lowering springs will be more comfortable than coilovers because the dampers are softer and because the springs are progressive. Lowering springs will give more grip because the suspension is more compliant which means it is easier for the wheel to follow the contours of the road.
How do you raise and lower a coilover shock?
In coilovers, the springs installed on the coilover shock can be raised and lowered manually by using a spanner wrench to raise or lower the spring retainers located on the shocks.
Can a low end coilover be used on a car?
Low-End coilovers, which are typically found on eBay or Amazon and won’t be sold by a reputable retailer, can make your car handle much worse than stock, which happens when a coilover isn’t adequately tested on and off the track.
How do you change the height of a coilover?
As they compress, ride quality becomes firmer and more buttoned-down without the harshness of shortened coil springs. Methods used to change height vary according to design. Some use a threaded collar at the base of the spring, while others use a knob at the bottom to vary the length of the shock body.
