Can anyone use Rutland Water?
Rutland Water is the Playground of the East Midlands Set in over 3,000 acres of beautiful rolling countryside there are plenty of activities found around and on the water for families, couples and individuals wishing to explore.
What is Rutland water famous for?
It was completed in 1978 and covers 3,100 acres. At its maximum, it is thirty-four metres deep and 1,200 metres long. The 1,000 acre nature reserve lies at the western end, and Rutland Water is famed for it’s wildlife: in fact, the nature reserve was designated before the reservoir had even been built!
Is Rutland Water Open?
Rutland Water Park is open every day except Christmas Day and most attractions and activities are available every day from Good Friday until 31st October, when reduced hours are advertised. Barnsdale car park is closed 1st November to 1st March but all others are open throughout the year.
Is Rutland water safe to swim in?
Swimming. Our waters are great for fishing, observing nature and relaxing, however, they are not for unsupervised swimming. Our Rutland Water Beach situated at Sykes Lane, offers visitors a safe environment to cool down in the summer months with trained lifeguards on watch throughout the season.

How long does it take to walk around Rutland Water?
The start of the walk includes crossing a sheep pasture (which can be muddy) but the rest of the walk follows a well made stone track all the way round. You’ll be sharing the path with cyclists and sheep so take care with children and dogs. Allow 2 hours.
