What is there to see between Moab and Bryce Canyon?

We used the two nights between Bryce and Moab to explore Capitol Reef, calf creek falls, Goblins Valley and the Sego Canyon petroglyphs. If we had done it in a straight shot without overnights, we would have missed a lot of those wonderful sites which actually were some of our favorite parts of our 17 day trip.

It is a dirt and gravel road that starts and ends at the Monument Valley Visitor Center. You can self-drive this loop. A 4×4 is not necessary; cars can drive this road without any real difficulty.

Is Moab or Zion better?

Even though Zions is higher on my list for best parks, Moab gives you a lot more options for activities besides hiking. Zions canyon is fairly small and the major hiking is limited for short time visitors to three or four good hikes and about the same number of smaller hikes.

How many days do you need in Moab?

We recommend at least 2 full days/ 3 nights for the Moab area. One day for Arches National Park and half a day to a day for Canyonlands National Park, plus the Dead Horse Point State Park. In addition, you can also take a short rafting tour, as we did. 3 days/4 nights would make your visit more relaxing.

Should I go to Arches or Canyonlands?

We preferred Canyonlands due to the longer trails and much fewer people. But if you’re looking for shorter trails and lots of arches, Arches might be your better bet. Hiking well into the fading light of the day in Canyonlands National Park.
