How is vergence measured?
Vergence is measured in degrees and prism diopters. The meter angle is also used in order to get a comparable metric for accommodation and convergence. Meter angles equal the reciprocal of the viewing distance and the value is approximately equal to the accommodative stimulus in diopters.
What is vergence angle?
Vergence refers to the simultaneous movement of both eyes in opposite directions to obtain single binocular vision. When the eyes rotate towards each other (convergence) the angle of eye increases and when the eyes rotate away from each other (divergence) the angle becomes smaller (Figure 1).
What is the vergence of a plano lens?
A curved interface together with a straight interface forms a plano-convex/plano-concave lens while two curved surfaces form biconvex/biconcave lenses. Vergence theory allows a quick derivation of the propagation of light through any thin lens.
What is AC A ratio?
The ratio accommodative-convergence (AC) over accommodation (A) indicates the relationship between the amount of convergence produced by a stimulus to accommodate and the amount of accommodation which produces that convergence.
What are the types of vergence?
Types
- Tonic vergence: vergence due to normal extraocular muscle tone, with no accommodation and no stimulus to binocular fusion.
- Accommodative vergence: blur-driven vergence.
- Fusional vergence (also: disparity vergence, disparity-driven vergence, or reflex vergence): vergence induced by a stimulus to binocular fusion.
How do you calculate AC ratio?
AC/A ratio = 3/1; PC/A ratio = 2/1. These two ratios have additive properties. For every 1 D change in accommodative demand, 5pd of convergence are generated (3 accommodatively and 2 proximally).
What is a vergence formula?
Simple Lens Formula Vergence: The reciprocal of the distance from a reference point. U = 100/u, where u is measured in centimeters or U = 40/u where u is measured in inches.
How do you calculate far points?
P is negative, because a diverging lens is required. For example, if a person has FP = 30 cm, then the optical power needed is P = −3.51 diopters where one diopter is the reciprocal of one meter.
How is AC A ratio measured?
9 The AC/A ratio using the heterophoria method is then calculated using the near measurement obtained after monocular occlusion us- ing the standard formula: AC/A = ipd + exotropia at 6.00 m − exotropia at 0.33 m/3, where ipd is the interpupillary distance in centimeters.
