What happened to Waiwera?
The Waiwera Thermal Spa Resort shut up shop for refurbishment in February 2018. It never reopened. The 1.73 hectare property, worth $13.8 million, has been left to decay since the resort closed for a supposed six-month $3m refurbishment in February 2018, when all its staff were made redundant.
Why was waiwera closed?
Once a beloved haunt of families and tourists, the Waiwera Hot Pool complex closed its doors in February of 2018. Though these Auckland hot springs were due to undergo renovation before reopening, the doors were never again opened to the public. Now, more than two years on, the once-world class resort lays derelict.
